It is the best scale for advanced home bakers because it can weigh in baker's percentages, which is a feature that will enable you to scale recipes down or up if you're hoping to bake by ratio. This allows the bakers to make smaller or larger batches of a certain recipe effortlessly. Moreover, it is one of the few scales that provides you with an option to disable the auto-off function.

This digital scale will give you a top-notch baking experience where the precision offered is unmatched to the best measuring spoons and cups. It boasts of a very good review by verified purchase users online. With that being said, read on to find out a detailed review of the My Weigh KD-8000 scale.

Features of My Weigh KD-8000 scale

1. Capacity

As mentioned above, the KD-8000 scale has a capacity of 8kgs, which is equivalent to 8000 grams, 17.6 pounds, and six ounces, making it a reliable kitchen scale. This represents the maximum amount of weight this smart scale can hold, including the weight of a tare item or a bowl. You can measure the capacity in five weighing modes that include pounds, pounds/ounces, ounces, grams, and kilograms.

The capacity will work for most people because most people bake a maximum of 3 kilograms of dough. So, this capacity is above and beyond what you might need. However, it would be best if you were careful not to put anything with a heavier mass than the scale can handle. This is because if you consistently do that, you can damage the scale or throw off the calibration.

2. Batteries/ Power Source

This scale doesn't require so many batteries and is only powered by three AAA batteries that can easily be accessed via a battery cove found at the bottom of the scale. However, before turning the scale upside down, ensure you remove or secure the tray because it can easily come crashing on the floor. No extra tools like screwdrivers are required to open the location of the batteries; you need to press open. A low battery indicator will be displayed on the screen when you need to change the battery.

If you find an AC adapter more convenient to use, you can always use it since the scale comes with one. With this, you won't have to rush to buy batteries during the baking process. Ensure you're using the correct power cord, a DC 5V 300mA, to avoid damaging this kitchen scale.

3. Design and Material

The My weigh KD8000 scale features a strong and removable stainless steel platform with a durable body and precise readings. It also comes with three disposable soft covers and a plastic cover to protect the buttons from any substances. The removable stainless steel platform ensures the scale durable and promotes easy cleaning.

For the design, the display of this great scale is found below the weighing tray. It has an amazing viewing angle which means you can place a large plate, and the displayed weight will still be clear. The display is backlit, which gives precise readability even in the dark.

The My Weigh KD8000 scale is a digital one which means more accurate measurements even when converting the measurements to different units. The weight measurements have a decimal point which keeps you from guesswork.

4. Baker's Percentage Weighing Feature

If you love baking, then Baker's math function will come in handy when using a recipe that you like. Although some recipes are great, you may want to make smaller or larger quantities. This bakers percentage weighing function will help the scale calculate the changes you need to make so that the recipe suits the amount you want to use.

Since baking is all about ratios and percentages, this feature will help to calculate the percentage of the ingredient in relation to the flour. The flour is scaled down or up first; the rest of the ingredients will be weighed using a percentage that is relative to the flour.

To use this function, you place the bowl on the weighing platform to reduce the weight of the bowl using the tare button. Then weigh the flour, hit the % button to establish it as 100%, and hit the tare button to zero it out. You can then add your next ingredient, and the scale will show the percentage of the ingredient to your flour's weight. You can then hit the tare button then continue adding the ingredients one by one.

5. Auto-Off Feature

The auto shut-off feature is great to help save battery life. Although most kitchen scales have an auto shut-off feature, only a few scales have the ability to customize this feature. The My Weigh KD-8000 will give you the option of turning off the auto shut-off function to enable you to have as much time as you would like to when removing or adding the ingredients.

6. Calibration Feature

If a scale cannot be calibrated, then you may have to dispose of it after some time. The Bakers math kitchen scale KD8000 features a simple calibration process, but you will the calibration weight. To calibrate the scale, start when the scale is off, press and hold the Mode and Power button. Then release and wait for the display to show CALE.

You can then place a 5 kg weight on the platform, wait for a few seconds, then press tare. When the display is complete, the scale will display PASS. You can remove the weights, turn them off from then on. Also, if the calibration is still not accurate, repeat the process. Luckily, you can find these simple steps in the user manual that comes with the scale.

Once in a while, you may be required to calibrate your scale, especially if you carry the scale to a different location or at a different. Moving might make your scale inaccurate, and calibrating it will help to bring the accuracy back.
